27 Feb Private Singing Lessons: Frequently Asked Questions
Thinking about starting singing lessons, but still, have lots of questions?
Can anyone learn to sing?
“Yes! Everyone can develop their gift as a singer, but all voices have unique characteristics that must be nurtured individually. But most importantly, all aspiring vocalists must approach singing with joy and commitment.”
I am a beginner with no formal training. Can I study with you?
“Certainly. I will work with anyone – whether they have a lot, a little, or no experience – to help them discover their true voice.”
Can I change my voice from pretty to beautiful?
Absolutely. Private vocal training will give you the tools to sing fully and effortlessly, helping you produce your optimum quality of sound. Learning to sing with ease and freedom will expand your vocal range, and create a beautiful voice.”
Isn’t it possible to learn how to sing from an instructional CD?
“I do not believe this is possible. All singers need an instructor to watch over them through the process of learning to sing. Even professional singers and voice teachers have coaches guiding them to ensure their voices stay strong and healthy, and continue to grow.”
How much time will I need to practice?
“As your voice develops, practice will be required in order to strengthen it. In addition, students are encouraged to augment their technical training by studying musicality and performance, which also require time and attention to perfect. But remember, anything you create for yourself is going to take work and dedication… it is all part of the adventure of learning to sing!”
Am I too old to begin voice training?
“You’re never too old! I work with children as young as ten years, and with adults of all ages.”
How long is a lesson with you?
“I offer 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions, depending on your experience.”
I have an audition coming up. Can you help me prepare for it?
“I have the knowledge and experience to help you in all aspects of audition preparation. I can assist you in vocal technique, repertoire, and even dance and dramatic performance!
I’m not interested in singing operatically!
“No problem! Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can apply the TNT VOX vocal technique to any style – different classical genres, bel canto, Broadway, even Jazz!
Can you teach the Musical Theatre and Jazz Style?
Yes, a matter of fact many of my students are in Performance schools where musical theatre is extremely important. Plus a lot of my students have moved on to professional careers in Musical Theatre. I also started in Musical theatre as a young performer and during my professional career I was hired to be in Musicals as well as Classical productions. (Versatility as a singer is very important). Once the voice is properly connected, I do work on the belt blend which is essential for this style. Some students have moved on to post-secondary schools specialising in Jazz.
I want to develop my speaking voice. Can you help?
“I have worked with teachers, orators, and even lawyers wishing to develop a clearer, more unique tone of voice. Public speaking can be as trying for the vocal cords as constant singing so it is imperative, for the health of your voice, to have a correctly-produced sound.
Are you available for master classes?
“Yes! I have done performance master classes, voice technique master classes, and a combination of both.”
