To Whom it May Concern,

I have been attending vocal lessons with Susan Gudgeon since May 2017. I had never taken vocal lessons before, but have taken many other types of lessons in my life. At the time I began singing with Susan, I had been singing in a Church folk choir for 10 years. Our choir director moved on and was replaced by someone who decided to take our choir in a more classical direction.

Susan Gudgeon was recommended to me by our new choir director, who has a higher standard for his singers than our folk choir director had. He suggested Susan as an accomplished, and exacting vocal coach known for drawing out the best from singers under her tutelage. He had taken some vocal lessons from Susan, and has worked with, and continues to work with many singers she has coached.

For my part, I find Susan exceptionally talented as an instructor. She uses science to explain the voice, what creates it, how to mold and shape it, and its place in the body. In addition, Susan uses imagery, analogy, thoughts, and feelings to both explain what is happening in the voice, and to excite students about their singing, and their particular timbre, range, and sound. I have been thrilled, and impressed, by what my voice can do in vocal warm-ups, songs Susan refers to as “nutrition” for the voice, and in the songs

Susan recommends for my range and abilities. I have brought my 9-year-old grand-daughter to some of my lessons, and have been impressed by how quickly Susan can draw out a 9-year-old’s talent, and with just the right words, improve her sound instantaneously. Susan is extremely knowledgeable about her subject matter, and she imparts that knowledge with ease to adults, and to children of any age. I love to sing. But even more than that, I love to sing in lessons with Susan Gudgeon. Should you have any questions, I can be reached at lyndakooymans@cogeco.ca
